Bob’s Ice -cream Ride Blog
It finally happened! Didn’t think it was going to be a totally nice day for riding this spring, but this day was the perfect day to ride. Puffy white clouds with lots of blue in between and mid 70’s temperature with hardly any wind! Man it was great.
What made it even more notable was Mike and LInda Giardina blazing the trail on their trike and taking us down (or is that Up?) anyway, around a lot of winding nicely paved roads that Tam and I have never been on. Tam saw some white swans swimming in a pond just past Caton. I just caught a glimpse after she told me about ‘em. That’s just a bonus when your riding out in the country.
I never saw it coming, I mean... well, I had an idea, but never expect it to happen so soon. And Dom drove over it ...with Derick on the back when it happened!
More on that later.
Not too many bikes showed up for the ride... as a matter of fact, there were only 7 at the start . Hate to say it but only 5 finished. Dom was behind me when it happened! I was startled by his horn, but by then it was too late....
Anyway, where was I... oh, yeah, we were riding along and suddenly we came around a bend and I saw a sign on the side of the building which read: ‘Julie's Crazy Corner’ . “Now there’s a place for me”, I thought! I noticed it was closed as we drove by. Then I wondered if it was still open during the week and just closed on Sunday. Only one way to find out! ... try to find Mike and Linda and have them take me back there. Yep, I was lost. Hadn’t had a clue as to where we were. Left turn, right turn, straight through, then another left.... or was that a right? That’s the nice part about being senile, even if I did go there again, it would all seem like the first time!
Shortly after Julie's Crazy corner, George Squiers, from South Port, left us and rode back home. I figure we were somewhere near his huse and remember him saying when I met him at the Corning Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot, that he did not want to do a long ride. So George, if you’re reading this, it was nice to have met you. We hope you made it home safely and enjoyed riding with us.
George Hall was in front of me, and in front of him was Mike and Linda, the leaders. Dave was behind me when the sound of Doms horn pierced the air! But I’m getting ahead of myself again. Kind of like taking my granddaughter to see “UP” at the movies. Never take your granddaughter to the movies if she has already seen the movie the night before! If she’s sitting next to you, she’ll tell ya everything that’s going to happen just before it does! EVERYTHING!!! The movie was really good, and Tam and I both loved it. I give it a 9.3 out of 10.
We stopped in Lawrenceville to catch a stretch, get something to drink and relieve our minds and other various body parts. That’s when we found out it was going to happen before we reached Beartown Peaches and Cream! We just didn’t know when! and there was absolutely nothing we could do to stop it!
We set out, heading north on the old route 15 and cut through the back way behind the golf course near Presho and had just crossed a small bridge when it happened! Doms horn sounded just after Dom ran over..... well, his bike ran over, well, Dom and his bike ran over the 20,000 mile marker on his odometer. We needless to say, were all very happy for him and celebrated at Beartown Peaches and Cream with delicious cones, sundaes and shakes.
We were back home in time to do a little work around the house and enjoy the rest of the evening. Man I love days like this. These are the times I think about in the cold dead of winter and wish I were doing. It’s like having your cake and eatin’ it too!
Hope you can make the next run, 'til then, be safe and happy riding!

Texas Hots - Wellsville NY
Bob’s blog
It’s a short ride to Texas..
Texas Hot Restaurant at 132 N. Main St., Wellsville... and the picture perfect sunny day made it even more exciting. The cool northwest breeze was no match for the thrill of riding on some winding back roads of Steuben and Livingston counties.
Meeting up for the ride at Pulteney Park in Bath, were 15 motorcyclists and 19 total riders. I regret that I was not able to take many pictures of the ride itself, but sure found it fascinating to lead the group on the ride. I’ve always liked to ride in the back, not just to be able to take photos, but because, to me, one motorcycle or a group of bikes, is a vision of beauty! They’re like flowers in full bloom... all kinds of colors and sizes and makes and models, much like the riders who drive ‘em. And it is this one common thread which sews together on a weekend afternoon after working hard all week long. I especially like this riding club “Steuben Cruisers” because ALL are welcome, and the focus is on riding safely and having a good time.
Speaking of “all”, it was a pleasure to see so many clubs represented ie: Christian Motorcycling Association, Gold Wing Riders Chapter R of PA, the Northern Riders and more, and although we had a vast variety of riders, we were no match for the variety of good eatin’ food at the Wellsville Texas Hot Restaurant. We went in all as a group and sat down and were waited on very quickly by the camera shy waitresses: Cindy and Gina..., but not so for poor Mike and his wife from Baltimore, MD... who got there just one minute after us, and had to wait.
More on Mike in a moment...
You wouldn’t think a Texas hot restaurant would also serve Chicken ‘n Biscuits, or homemade soups, or Delmonico Steak (ain’t that right, Dom!!!)... or even be party to some famous celebs like Shirley Jones, Donny Osmond, Bill Pullman and “Bill Yochem”! The Texas Hot Restaurant established in 1921, and hosted by Chris Rigas and Mike Raptis, is a step back in time with up to date meals at ole fashioned prices! Well, maybe a year old! It’s been in the same family for 3 generations. We found it to be a delightful, charming and friendly place to eat.
After chowing down, we all gathered outside the restaurant for a group photo.... (now I know why the chicken crossed the road!) It was a busy road, too! While I was setting up the camera to make a mad dash across the well traveled street, with one bad knee, along comes our “Steuben Cruisers Idol of the week.... Mike Cummiskey. Yep, the same guy who had to wait for us when we first got there to eat.... now OFFERED to take our group shot so I wouldn’t have to run across that busy street or take a darn good chance of getting a blurry picture of a car going by. Yes, Mike stepped up the plate and hit a home run for all of us. (I always liked Camden Yards.) Thanks soooooooo much Mike, where ever you are on your travels. We wish you well. and great job on our group shot!
It was short hope to the gas station for a fill up, and the opportunity to get some shots of the riders and bikes, then we were off with the WIND to our backs, whew. Now that was a nice ride back.... at least until we hit the top of the hill near Howard, where, if our bikes had sails... we’d have been in New Jersey before we got to Howard! Anyway, our ride ended up at Dean’s Ice Cream stand on Rte 415 in Bath, where we all enjoyed a nice COOL treat. Hope ya all enjoyed the day, there’s a lot more in store for the summer... stay tuned!

O.K., Here's my Ride Itinerary:
Hey, you can go to church and still make the ride for and enjoyable mid-afternoon Hot Dog run to Wellsville!
We'll meet at Pulteney Park in Bath 12:45
Leave Bath at 1pm heading up county route 10 to Cameron, heading over the hill to Hedgesville and then Jasper.
We'll pick up the pace in Jasper and take the scenic route 417 straight to Wellsville for a great lunch arriving at the Texas Hot Restaurant around 2:30. Haven't been their either, so should be interesting. There have been a lot of good reviews about this place, and now we'll be able to give our own review after the ride. While there, we'll be searching for this weeks "non-member... Steuben Cruiser IDOL" so keep your eye out. You'll know them when you spot 'em, they're friendly, have a great sense of humor and they LOVE MOTORCYCLES! We will try to ge a group shot before we head back on route 417, however we will head north at Andover on to route 21 to Hornell, where we will sneak in the back way and up over the hill to Howard. Of course, an Ice Cream stop is in order at Dean's Ice Cream! We should be back home around 6...ish.
Hope ya all can make it.

Taughannock Falls (ride Blog)
Every ride we take, we find someone who is friendly, unique and goes the extra mile. This ride was no exception, ergo Renee LeDue who offered to take our group photograph at the falls. Turned out quite well don't you think? Renee just graduated with honors from Ithaca College, my fathers old alma matar.
Anyway, it looked like poor Dom was going to do the ride to Taughannock falls all by himself, then at the last minute "Little Lar" and Bob showed up, and soon after so did Ken with Jessica riding on the back. So the four bikes headed out to Watkins Glenn with Ken and Jessica leading the way. (B.T.W, good job Ken) We arrived at the Watkins Burger King and HOT COFFEE was in order for us normal folks. There, we met up with Milt and Cindy so then we had 5 bikes. Milt can't be normal in any stretch of the imagination... he had an Ice Slushy!
It was very cool and windy, but we headed out to the Falls with Dom leading the charge. The beauty of this area made the whole trip worth while and everyone who went, really enjoyed the journey.
I had never been to the Taughannock Falls. It's a must go place on your short "ta-do" list. you wont be disappointed, AND... we even found a short cut to get there in the process.
While at the falls, we also met up with Jeff who works with Dom at the Rand. Poor Jeff.... rode the whole way all by himself, and when he caught up to us... went right on by! Said he thought there would be more bikes. Are you kidding! It was freakin' FREEZING! The smart people stayed home and did yard work and stuff like that. Those of us who braved the weather.... reallly did have a FUN TIME.
Hope you enjoy the photos!

Steuben's Jello Ride
Ok, Our Pictures are here provided by our famous Bad Bob
Please click on Rebecca's picture to view

8 Bikes showed up for the ride............
Pictures will be up online soon, so please check back later
The ride went very well and everyone rode great with no problems. I am guessing but I have to think the group logged in over 150 miles for this ride....
Our trip to Leroy and to the Jello museum did not draw as many riders as we hoped.
We ended up with eight bikes, which is enough to have a lot of fun with but far less than expected.
Although small the Jello museum was very interesting which also had many pleasant unrelated
exibits as well... Many old carriages, plus an 1840 ox cart.... and 1908 Cadillac in very good condition.... It was well worth the ride up as the roads and weather only got better as we went..
We also got to visit a very nice historical house in Leroy as well... which dated back to 1840.
Leroy is a very nice town, where many of us were very impressed with. While we were in the Jello
museum we did ask for a nice place to eat so they recommended D&R Depot Restaurant..
The prices were very fair and the food was great, was decorated very well.... we all agreed this was one great place to stop and eat. www.dandrdepot.com
This place is awesome and you can tell by the pictures...... We had a heck of a good waitress with a great sense of humor.....(Rebecca) could give it right back at us while joking around......
We did give her our card and she will be checking out our site.... we promised to make her famous by posting her picture on our site.....Bob has shown interest in returning someday, so later this year we are going to have a Mean Bob's -- Leroy ride... but we have to make sure it is a day Rebecca is working... We do plan on getting even.... Right Rebecca..!!!!
So----------- Rebecca thanks for being such a good sport and you made our day .. Next time we might decide to leave a tip (only kidding). Hopefully we will bring a larger group with us next time...
The return trip home was very pleasant... taking a different way home than what we took going up...
And, Yes we did stop for ice cream in Kanona... Do you really think we would forget..
Our second ride was really alot of fun even if only eight showed up. Which brings up another point.. we will be setting up a poll on our site so that we can get a better idea of what kind of rides people want. We seem to always attack more riders with the lower milage rides and staying closer to home.
Any thoughts on the idea, please write us at steubencruisers@yahoo.com
